Location

One of the most important things is the location of the class. If it’s too far away or difficult to get to, then you’re less likely to go regularly.

Find a class that’s near your home or somewhere that’s convenient for you to get to. Anywhere that s on your route from work or school is perfect.

Instructor’s Experience

Before signing up and committing yourself to lessons, check out what experience the instructors have. Ideally, they will have several years’ worth of yoga, gymnastics or other aerial teaching experience.

A reputable gym or yoga studio will offer the opportunity to meet with your instructor(s) before signing up to a class, allowing you to ask them any questions in person. If you have specific concerns about starting an aerial yoga class then meeting your instructor will also put your mind at ease.

Class Size

Another thing to consider is the size of the class and how much tuition/instruction you’ll receive. If it’s a large class, there’s less focus on individuals. But if it’s a smaller class, then you have the instructor will have the chance to spend a bit more time with individual students.

There’s also your personal preference to consider, you may prefer a larger or smaller class, it’s entirely up to you. Of course, the size of the class isn’t always within your control. You can usually determine the maximum number in a class based on how many yoga swings there are!

Skill Level

You need to ensure that you find an aerial yoga class that’s the right skill level for you. Since you’re reading this article, you’re probably a beginner – that’s cool, everyone starts somewhere! You’ll most likely want to be in a class with other beginners and first-timers so that you won’t feel like you’re behind the other students.

All aerial yoga classes will offer lessons for beginners, but you may find that some classes are mixed-ability, meaning that intermediate and advanced students are in the same class as beginners. This can be a good thing, as you can often learn and get inspired by other students. However, it is distracting for some.

Consider the skill level of the class with the size of the class.

Reviews and Testimonials

Don’t forget to check the reviews of the yoga studio and, if possible, the teacher themselves. Have a look on:

  • Google Maps
  • Facebook
  • Yelp
  • Trustpilot
  • Trip Advisor

Or anywhere else that has local business listings and reviews in your area. This can give you a genuine insight from current and previous students and customers as to what to expect.

Price

Price is very important to consider when choosing an aerial yoga class, you may be restricted by what your personal budget allows. Honestly, the price of classes varies all around the world.

You could pay anywhere from $5 – $30 for a 1-hour session. Do your research, check deals on Groupon or similar.

Sometimes, it may work out cheaper to block book a number of classes in advance. This obviously requires a commitment, so make sure you enjoy aerial yoga before committing to attend 10+ classes over 4 weeks, or whatever.

It’s also worth looking into whether your local studio will offer drop-in sessions or trial classes for free, offering you to the chance to try aerial yoga without obligation!
